Red Bull Racing Racer, Max Verstappen managed to come out as world champion Formula 1 (F1) 2021 after winning the Abu Dhabi GP at the Yas Marina Circuit, Sunday (12/12) night WIB.
Verstappen confirmed his first world title after finishing at the front of the F1 GP Abu Dhabi. Verstappen beat the main competitor, Lewis Hamilton who finished second and third place was occupied by Carlos Sainz Jr.
Verstappen ensured the title after passing Hamilton on the last lap. The victory locked the title race which lasted fiercely throughout this season.
Verstappen is now firmly at the top of the drivers’ standings. Verstappen scored a total of 395.5 points throughout the 2021 F1 race.
Verstappen is 8 points ahead of Hamilton who must be willing to fail to defend his title. Before the last series at the Abu Dhabi GP F1, Verstappen and Hamilton both collected 369.5 points.
Hamilton actually started the race well. The British driver started from second position but was able to lead the race after passing Verstappen who actually took pole position.
Hamilton was able to continue to maintain that position. The chance to defend the F1 world title also emerged if he was able to stay ahead of Verstappen.
The advantage was able to be maintained by Hamilton until the middle of the race. Hamilton could even be 17 seconds ahead of Verstappen.
Entering the last 10 laps, Hamilton was also still ahead by 12 seconds over the Dutch racer.
However, Verstappen was able to reduce that distance and finally he managed to pass Hamilton on the last lap to finish first at the Yas Marina Circuit.
