Vayrac. Weekend dedicated to Virginia Woolf

As part of the Haut-Quercy Book Festival, the Désir de livres de Martel association, in partnership with the cinema l’Uxello de Vayrac, offers the screening of the film “Vita et Virginia”, in its original version with subtitles in French, directed by Chanya Button with Gemma Arterton, Elizabeth Debicki and Isabella Rosselini, this Saturday, August 29 at 8:30 p.m.

This film, released in 2019, chronicles the meeting in 1922 of two exceptional women, Virginia Woolf and Vita Sackville-West. The first is a revolutionary woman of letters, the second a social aristocrat. When their paths cross, the irresistible Vita sets her sights on the brilliant and fragile Virginia. Begins a passionate relationship that ignores social conventions and their respective marriages.

Throughout this weekend from August 27 to 29, the public will be able to celebrate this exceptional woman that was Virginia Woolf, author of a work of astonishing modernity, feminine and feminist figure engaged in the fight for the freedom and emancipation, an extraordinary personality, hypersensitive, passionate and melancholy, inspirer of several generations of artists.

In Martel, Laurence Buaillon’s paintings, delicate and powerful at the same time, weave correspondences with her life and her work. Emmanuelle Favier’s book, “Virginia” (Albin Michel), traces the years of childhood and adolescence, founders, to emancipation and the first writings. Readings will immerse the public in its universe and its imagination and will give to hear its so particular voice.

Screening in Vayrac, Saturday August 29 at 8:30 p.m. Usual prices. Wearing a mask is compulsory.
