The popular folk performer breathed his last at the age of 70.
Vassilis Karras, the popular popular performer of the great hits, “passed away” on Sunday afternoon (12/24) in a private hospital in Thessaloniki at the age of 70. The health of the popular artist was particularly burdened in the last year and a half, after he fought a brave battle with cancer, which finally defeated him.
According to the information that became known shortly after 18:00 on Christmas Eve, Vassilis Karras had been hospitalized for the last few days with coronavirus and his condition was particularly critical, since his body had been dramatically strained. His wife and daughter were by his side until the last moment.
Proof of how beloved the late singer was was the thousands of farewell messages that flooded social media from fans, his associates and friends, as soon as the news of his death became known. Some of them are Anna Vissi, Kaiti Garbi, Nikos Kourkoulis, Hara Verra, Eleni Hatzidou and the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
As reported by the central news bulletins of the television stations, Vassilis Karras is going to be buried in his hometown, Kokkinohori in Kavala, where he has even provided an important social work. After all, this was the last wish of the singer, the “finale” to be written on his estate in his beloved village.
Two months ago, in October 2023, Vassilis Karras made a telephone intervention on Fame Story, where he spoke live on air to the applause of the audience.
“Good evening Nikola, good evening to the whole audience, to the panel and everywhere. Thank you very much for this hospitality and all the Greek people, my whole class for their interest and love. What love is this, my God? What a beauty; I’m by your side, Nikola, as are you. May God give us strength, be strong and see each other”, the late singer had said publicly for the last time.
