Back to school time will soon ring for Vanessa Paradis. After finding herself caught in spite of herself in the heart of the heated legal battle between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, the wife of director Samuel Benchétrit is back in the spotlight for a nobler reason. The singer and actress has been chosen to be the president of the 46th edition of the Deauville American Film Festival, which will be held from September 4 to 13 in the Normandy city. A prestigious role intended to honor “an atypical and daring artist” with “multiple facets” explained last June Bruno Barde, the president of the festival.
However, it is a somewhat special edition that will be chaired by Vanessa Paradis. Due to the coronavirus crisis, the Deauville American Film Festival has been forced to adapt. The good news is that it should take place physically. In recent months, all film festivals have either been canceled or held virtually. But Deauville intends to meet in real life lovers of the 7th art. “It will be the first major festival since the Covid. Beaune has not taken place. Locarno has not taken place. The 2020 edition of the traditional American Film Festival will however have a special taste. The borders with the United States being closed because of the Covid-19, the American stars will not be able to tread the boards of Deauville this year. This 46th edition has therefore become a “short film festival” according to the mayor of the city Philippe Augier and will honor French and international films. But if no Hollywood actor or actress will unfortunately be there, the Deauville Festival will still be able to count on a prestigious cast of stars. Alongside Vanessa Paradis, the public will perhaps be able to see Leïla Bekhti, Pio Marmaï, Maïwenn, Benoît Poelvoorde, Dominique Blanc, Bruno Podalydès, Vincent Lacoste or even Oxmo Puccino on the red carpet.
