Vaccination for children and adolescents in RLP in vaccination centers – SWR Aktuell

The health ministers of the federal states have decided that children and adolescents from the age of 12 can also be vaccinated more easily against Corona – against the recommendation of Stiko.

Twelve to 17-year-olds will therefore be offered vaccinations across the board in vaccination centers and through general practitioners – medical information and the consent of the parents will be ensured.

Stiko does not generally recommend vaccination for children and adolescents

So far, children and adolescents can only be vaccinated by paediatricians or family doctors. The Standing Vaccination Commission (Stiko) does not recommend vaccination for 12 to 17 year olds in general, but only for risk groups. However, the European Medicines Agency has approved the vaccines from Biontech and Moderna for children and adolescents from the age of twelve.

With the consent of their parents, children and adolescents could be vaccinated against Corona beforehand. For example, with your pediatrician or family doctor. There have also been special vaccination campaigns in schools.

Rhineland-Palatinate government welcomes decision

The Rhineland-Palatinate state government welcomes the decision of the Conference of Health Ministers that 12 to 17-year-olds can now also be vaccinated in the vaccination centers. Health Minister Clemens Hoch (SPD) said that the centers now have the capacity to offer the necessary medical advice to minors. This means that the wishes of many children and adolescents and their parents can be met and a vaccination can also be offered at the vaccination center after a medical consultation, says Hoch.

Booster vaccination for risk groups from September

In addition, the Conference of Health Ministers decided that members of risk groups can receive booster vaccinations from September. Health Minister Hoch said that the adequate supply of vaccine could now offer those affected another vaccination. These should be administered by general practitioners.
