In most cases, Americans who are fully vaccinated against corona no longer need to keep their distance and wear a mouth mask. This is stated in a new guideline from the CDC, the American RIVM. A mouth mask is still required after vaccination in busy indoor areas. This concerns, for example, buses, airplanes and hospitals.
President Biden took off his face mask in the Oval Office when the new directive was announced. The president spoke of “a great day for America”. He called on unvaccinated fellow countrymen to continue to wear the face masks, but also said that it was not the intention to arrest people who do not do so.
The number of corona cases has fallen sharply in the US, the figure is now at its lowest level since September. Thanks to the intensive vaccination campaign, 117 million Americans have been fully vaccinated. Another 37 million Americans have had a first shot.
