With the “Free Local” initiative, the City of Graz wants to counteract the vacancy of business premises.
As WOCHE recently reported, the vacancy problem in Graz is by no means “only” reduced to apartments. Numerous district administrators note that countless commercial premises in the inner and outer districts are not in use. This topic is not new to the city government either, they are now trying to counteract free business space.
Just a few clicks
Specifically, one relies on the “Free Local” initiative, in which everyone can actively participate, report vacancies and search for space. “The initiative surrounding the ‘Free Local’ website is above all an opportunity for every person from Graz to actively help ensure that free space is re-used,” said Mayor and Economics Officer Siegfried Nagl.
The website www.freielokale-graz.at offers owners and brokers the opportunity to advertise their vacant commercial properties free of charge and with just a few clicks. Interested parties can use the site for a simple property search in the Graz area. Graz residents can also use the “Report vacancy” button to report when vacant commercial properties are seen in Graz.
The city is building on numerous temporary use projects for areas that are not rented long-term. Here, owners release their free space for temporary use at favorable conditions. This creates creative ideas and projects that are supported by the city – this year, for example, as part of the cultural year 2020.
