Warship United States of America The USS Mason was hit by two ballistic missiles from the Houthis after freeing hostages on a tanker hijacked by the local militia wealth in the waters of the Gulf of Aden.
The attack was carried out by the Houthis in the midst of Israeli aggression against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and West Bank.
The US military stated to CNN that the USS Mason previously responded to a distress call from a tanker hijacked by the Houthi militia.
The tanker was identified as the Central Park carrying a cargo of phosphoric acid when the crew contacted and requested assistance from the USS Mason that “they were under attack by an unknown entity.”
The USS Mason, which is a missile destroyer operating in the Gulf of Aden, then asked the hijackers to free the tanker.
“Then, five armed men escaped from the ship and attempted to escape using a boat,” the US Command Center said on their X social media account.
“(The warship) Mason pursued the attackers leading to their surrender.”
Several hours later, Monday (27/11) at 01.41 local time, the US Central Command stated that two ballistic missiles were fired from Yemeni territory controlled by the Houthi rebels in the area near the USS Mason and Central Park.
“The missile landed in the waters of the Gulf of Aden about 10 nautical miles from the ship,” the US military said.
The missile attack occurred after the USS Mason completed a hostage release mission in response to a request for help from the Central Park tanker.
There was no damage and the crew of the Central Park tanker were injured after the hijacking incident by the Houthi militia.
