USA: Multiple arrests during protest by indigenous communities in Washington

Washington police made multiple arrests on Monday as various indigenous communities demonstrated in the nation’s capital.

The protest was part of a series of demonstrations in various states of the United States on the occasion of the Day of the Indigenous Peoples, which coincides with the commemoration of the arrival of Christopher Columbus in America.

The protest began with a march from Liberty Square to the White House, to demand that the Biden government stop the construction of oil and gas pipelines through indigenous lands across the country.
