The Taliban are preparing for a large-scale offensive against large populated areas in Afghanistan. The rebels still surround the positions of the police and the army and bide their time, when the last US troops leave territory.
The publication informs that with the cessation of air support for several weeks, the Afghan government forces are losing their edge in the conflict. Police forces say they won’t last long without aircraft and heavy weapons.
Government forces manage to recapture areas such as Arghandab, a fertile valley on the western edge of Kandahar, the country’s second largest city. Taliban fighters fled parts of Arghandab in early April after losing fighters after prolonged intense ground fighting by US warplanes.
