“Starting September 14, the US government will remove the requirement for all flights carrying airline passengers arriving from certain countries to land in one of the 15 countries supported and not go through an incoming health check,” wrote the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in a statement. upload on the official site.
Quoting CNN, The CDC says Covid-19 symptom screening doesn’t really help because so many cases are with people who don’t have symptoms.
“Transmission of the virus can occur from passengers who have no symptoms or who have not yet experienced symptoms of infection. Therefore, the CDC is changing its strategy and prioritizing other public health measures to reduce the risk of disease transmission during travel,” the CDC further wrote.
“Currently, incoming health checks for foreign nationals are being enhanced for those arriving from China (excluding Hong Kong and Macau), Iran, the Schengen area in Europe, Great Britain (excluding overseas territories in Europe, Ireland and Brazil.”
Instead of conducting checks for foreign arrivals, the CDC said it would dedicate to ‘more effective mitigation efforts’ by focusing on individual prevention.
The mitigation measures referred to include providing health information before departure, in flight, and after arrival for passengers.
However, the CDC did not rule out the random collection of contact information from passengers and the need to quarantine for 14 days to detect any symptoms of infection.
The US is currently still the country with the highest cases and death toll due to the global corona virus. To date, the US has 6,549,771 cases with 195,245 deaths due to Covid-19.
