US Records Highest Record, More than 80,000 Daily Cases of Covid-19

KOMPAS.com – The United States reports more than 80,000 cases of infection Covid-19 on Friday (23/10/2020).

This figure is a record for the highest daily cases since the corona virus pandemic.

The case record comes amid a growing number of hospitalizations and a daily death toll across the country.

Governor Gary Herbert warned that the impact of the coronavirus was already being seen on local hospital capacities.

“Until now, our hospital has been able to provide good care to all Covid and non-Covid patients who need it. But today we are at a threshold,” he said.

“If the Utah people do not take serious steps to limit group gatherings and wear masks, our healthcare providers will not have the ability to provide quality care to everyone who needs it,” continued Herbert.

Impact on US Elections

The coronavirus pandemic in the US has become a major policy battlefield ahead of the presidential election in November 2020.

Presidents Donald Trump and Joe Biden clashed on the issue during the presidential debate on Thursday (22/10/2020).

The two candidates continue to provide very different views on the future.

At a rally in Florida on Friday (23/10/2020), Trump promised his supporters that the pandemic would end soon.

He also accused Biden of exaggerating the crisis to scare people into voting for him.

On the other hand, Biden said the President had given up on containing the virus while speaking at an event in Delaware.

If elected, the former vice president will ask state governors to mandate the use of masks, create a national testing plan and order the production of personal protective equipment.

Biden also promised to make a Covid-19 vaccine free for every American once it is approved.
