US Soccer will provide equal pay for men’s and women’s teams for participation in all test matches and tournaments, including the World Cup.
In 2019, the US national team sued US Soccer, accusing the federation of failing to ensure equal pay for men and women in football. The agreement with US Soccer provides for $ 22 million in compensation to be paid to footballers, while $ 2 million will go to a fund to help players end their careers and develop charity for girls’ and women’s soccer.
The agreement of both parties has yet to be approved by a court before it can take effect.
A U.S. women’s team sued for unequal premiums at the 2014 and 2015 World Cups. The men’s national team received $ 5.375 million for entry into the 2014 World Cup Round of 16, while the national federation awarded $ 1.752 million to the women to win the 2015 tournament. According to US Soccer, the differences in costs were due to the sharp differences in bonuses between men and women of the International Football Federation (FIFA).
