US Justice Department Closes Investigation into Mike Pence over Classified Documents without Charges – Reuters

WASHINGTON, June 2 (Reuters) – The U.S. Justice Department has closed its investigation into former Vice President Mike Pence over classified documents found at his Indiana home without pressing charges, U.S. media reported on Friday. .

Mike Pence was notified of the closure of the investigation by letter from the Justice Department, NBC News reported, citing an unnamed department employee. CNN also reported the end of the investigation.

Spokespersons for Mike Pence and the Department of Justice could not immediately be reached for comment.

A lawyer for Mike Pence, who served during former Republican President Donald Trump’s tenure, had tipped off authorities about the discovery of files containing classified documents, prompting the FBI to search his Indianapolis home this year. He has “fully cooperated” with the investigation, a spokesman for the former vice president said.

Mike Pence is expected to announce his candidacy for the Republican nomination for the 2024 presidential election in the United States on June 7, two sources familiar with the matter told Reuters on Wednesday.
