US government combats humanitarian aid in Latin America

Washington. The US has put pressure on Brazil against buying the Russian Sputnik V vaccine. The US Department of Health’s Office of Global Affairs (OGA) has also used diplomatic channels to undermine aid from countries such as Cuba, Venezuela and Russia in Latin America. They disrupt US security in the region, it is said to justify. This is proven by the 2020 annual report of the US health authority, which the Internet platform Brasil Wire provides.

Under the subtitle “Combating Malicious Influences on the American Continent”, the Ministry reports on page 49 about the strategy used by the OGA and other US government agencies to counter “the influence of Cuba, Venezuela and Russia”. They offered technical and humanitarian aid to Latin American countries and persuaded them to refuse support from the three countries.

Brazil should decide against the Russian corona vaccine or Panama should seek technical support from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention instead of Cuban doctors. These are in action in numerous countries in the fight against the corona pandemic.

All in all, the documents of the Ministry of Health show that the well-being of the people in the countries of Latin America is less important to the USA than their geopolitical interests vis-à-vis their “official enemies”. Brasil Wire comments that one is apparently prepared to sacrifice human life for these interests.

The Brazilian government has so far mainly focused on vaccinations with the vaccine from AstraZeneca. The UK has been lobbying Brazil on behalf of AstraZeneca, Brasil Wire reports using secret documents that are available to the online portal. This shows “that the US is not the only country putting pressure on Brazil on behalf of the pharmaceutical multinationals in Latin America”.
