Trump has repeatedly blamed Biden for Afghanistan’s fall to the Taliban, even though the US troop withdrawal that sparked Afghanistan’s collapse was negotiated by his own administration.
“Biden’s decision to undertake an unsuccessful troop withdrawal from Afghanistan is the most stunning display of gross incompetence by a nation’s leader, perhaps at any time,” Trump said as he addressed supporters in Cullman, Alabama.
He blamed the situation on Biden for not following his administration’s plans and complained US personnel and equipment were left behind as troops retreated.
“This is not a withdrawal. This is a total surrender,” he said, as reported by Sputnik on Sunday (22/8/2021). Also read: US Spends IDR 30,000 Trillion Against the Taliban, JK: 12 Years of Our Budget
He said the Taliban, with whom he had negotiated, respected him. He suggested a quick takeover of Afghanistan would not have happened had he been in office.
“We could have come out with honor. We should have left with honor. And conversely, we came out with the opposite of honor,” he said. Also read: Trump curses Ashraf Ghani after Afghanistan falls to the Taliban
