The three were interviewed when they participated on Thursday in a forum in the state of Nevada, which on February 22 will hold a caucus for the nomination and where a 30% of the population is latin.

To the question of who is the president of Mexico, Buttigieg – former mayor of the small town of South Bend – replied: “Yes, the president López Obrador, I hope”.

Buttigieg went from being a stranger to national politics in U.S to one of the strong candidates in the Democratic race after being second in the New Hampshire primary and having led by a narrow margin the assembly held in Iowa.

The senator for Minnesota, Amy Klobuchar, who came third in New Hampshire, said he knew who the President is but could not quote his name.

Steyer – A billionaire who came sixth in New Hampshire but is fourth in the polls in Nevada – could not mention the name of Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
