On Whit Monday, May 29th, an accident occurred on Schlagstrasse in which Abbot Urban Federer’s car overturned.
At the time, the hermit abbot was on his way back from a confirmation in Ingenbohl.
In front of a construction site below Spiegelbergstrasse, Federer opened his center console to take out his sunglasses. He looked away from the road for several seconds.
His car left the road and collided with the guardrail. The Kia then overturned and came to rest on its roof in the middle of the road.
Now, according to the “Messenger of Urschweiz”, the 55-year-old has been sentenced to a fine. The reason given is “intentional gross violation of traffic rules due to a lack of attention”.
The punishment was a fine of 1,000 francs or a substitute prison sentence of eight days.
Federer also received a note in his criminal record. Through his traffic behavior, he “created a high risk of accidents, which materialized immediately,” said the public prosecutor. There was a “serious” danger to other road users.
