Frankfurt (dpa / lhe) – High prices, tense rental market: University and students in Frankfurt have called for better living conditions. “The situation is very bad,” said Tim Hoppe, housing consultant at the student union AStA at the Goethe University. “The average rents for a room in a shared apartment are over 500 euros and the prices go up to 800 euros.”

The student union, AStA and Goethe University want the future city government to act quickly: “More student living space has to be created,” it said recently in a joint statement. “For this purpose, suitable properties, but also suitable properties that are suitable for renting, must be identified.” For projects in the planning stage – such as the Günthersburghöfen in Nordend – student housing units would have to be included in the planning.

According to the information, more than 70,000 people are now studying at Frankfurt universities.
