United overcome De Gea’s mistake to continue winning at Everton’s expense | Football

Manchester United qualified for the fourth round of the FA Cup at the expense of Everton on Friday. Partly due to a goal by Antony, a mistake by goalkeeper David de Gea did not kill Erik ten Hag’s team: 3-1.

Antony opened the scoring at Old Trafford after just five minutes. The former Ajax player slotted the ball into the far post after good preparatory work from Marcus Rashford.

United could not enjoy the lead for long due to a mistake by De Gea. The goalkeeper bounced a simple ball from Neal Maupay through his legs, after which Conor Coady was able to score an equalizer.

Just after the break, Coady played into a negative lead for Everton. The defender got the ball into his own goal after a cross from Rashford. Moments earlier, Alex Iwobi had been carried off the field on a stretcher after a duel with Tyrell Malacia.

Everton appeared to come close fifteen minutes before the end thanks to Dominic Calvert-Lewin, but the goal was disallowed for offside. In the middle of injury time, Rashford provided the final agreement with a penalty: 3-1. It was United’s seventh consecutive win.

Malacia was replaced just in time for world champion Lisandro Martínez. Donny van de Beek had disappeared due to a wound who raced against Bournemouth on Tuesday (3-0 win).
