The police are not pleased with a ‘sickening’ 112 report from an underage boy in South Limburg. The boy called the emergency number yesterday with the lie that there was a dead child in a forest in Landgraaf.

“We spoke with the boy this morning, and are now going to see with partners such as the Public Prosecution Service and Safe Home how we are going to follow up on this,” said a police spokesman at 1Limburg.

The call to 911 came in yesterday afternoon. The boy, whose age has not been disclosed, indicated that there was a dead child in a specific place in Landgraaf. An ambulance, a rapid responder first aid vehicle and several police cars immediately drove to the forest, but found nothing.

Dare or truth

“In the end we found out that it was a sickening joke by a minor,” the police said Facebook. The boy participated in one truth-or-daregame and had to do a daring dare assignment.

The police can not laugh about it, according to the message on Facebook. “If you make a false report (meaning: say something is happening that is not true), or abuse 911 (just call and hang up or laugh, yell, swear, etc.), you are committing a crime. That is to say, it is seen as a serious offense.”

It is unknown how many reports to 112 are false, but the police regularly warn that there are high penalties for so-called prank calls. “If you are caught, you will receive community service or imprisonment,” said the Police. “Making a false report or committing 112 abuse is life-threatening! Remember that there are always people who really need help, because they have a cardiac arrest, their house is on fire, or are being robbed.”
