Ultra-Left Sympathizers Disrupt Court Hearing with Anti-Police T-Shirt

In one of the rooms, the hearing was abruptly interrupted when a man showed off an anti-police t-shirt and resisted being ejected from the premises.

An immediate appearance hearing of people suspected of having participated in the urban violence of recent days in Lyon had to be suspended on Tuesday following a movement by ultra-left sympathizers, who according to the Minister of Justice Eric Dupond-Moretti have “messed up” the court.

A week after the start of the urban riots in the Rhône, following the death of young Nahel killed by a policeman in Nanterre, these immediate appearances began in the afternoon in two crowded courtrooms.

Un tee-shirt anti-police

In one of the rooms, the hearing was abruptly interrupted when a man showed off an anti-police T-shirt and resisted his expulsion from the premises, reported the Lyon prosecutor’s office.

There followed a crowd movement at the exit of the room, where around thirty activists chanting slogans hostile to the police tried – in vain – to oppose the arrest for contempt of the wearer of the T-shirt.

Police reinforcements dispatched at the request of the prosecution then evacuated the room calmly, added the prosecution.

The president of the court then decided to bring into the courtroom only lawyers, journalists and people with summonses for the evening of Tuesday.

Three quarters of an hour of suspension

This decision, taken “after assessment of the risk of disturbing public order”, according to the prosecution was motivated by the number and behavior of the public, as well as by a prohibited demonstration scheduled for Tuesday evening by the movement of extreme left near the court

After about three quarters of an hour of suspension in the room where the incident took place, the debates were able to resume.

In Paris, the Minister of Justice reacted to this episode during a session in the Assembly. “I want to have a thought at this moment, and I think it will be almost common here, for the magistrates, the clerks, the administrative staff” and “the lawyers no doubt, who saw your friends disembark to mess up this hearing” , he added, addressing the benches of LFI on the sidelines of debates on the programming bill for justice.
