Uli Hoeneß reveals what he has been doing since he retired

Uli Hoeneß resigned as President of FC Bayern Munich last November. Now the longtime maker reveals who his most spectacular transfer was.

Uli Hoeneß was President of FC Bayern Munich for many years. During this time he saw some players come and go at Säbener Strasse. Now Hoeneß reveals in an interview with “TZ” who his most spectacular transfer was. Surprisingly, it is not one of the expected stars, no Giovane Elber, no Oliver Kahn or Robert Lewandowski, but another “old acquaintance”: Sören Lerby.

“The Csernai fell under the table”

The Dane played for Bavaria from 1983 to 1986. Hoeneß explains the obligation as follows: “At that time we had seven million marks in debt and an additional advisory board meeting at noon. Because: Sören cost two million, we had to get the go. Then Rudolf Houdek said: Oh, there are two million it doesn’t matter anymore. If you think so, just buy it. “

Hoeneß then went to Amsterdam with Willi O. Hoffmann and Pal Csernai to see him. However, the game ended 0-0 and Lerby had only been on the ball twice, Hoeneß continues. “Then I ask the Csernai: Well, Mr. Csernai, what do we do now? Then he said: After what I saw today, we cannot buy it. I said: You are not serious now? He: Yes, we can’t buy it, and we were having a really good time discussing it, no decision had yet been made – the door opened, Sören came up the stairs, sat down and the Hoffmann said: Dear Mr. Lerby, may I? Welcome you as a Bayern player? The Csernai fell under the table. “

It seemed unimaginable that one day there would be a Bayern Munich without Uli Hoeneß as president. But Hoeneß also reports about his everyday life since he left Bavaria: “Christmas was almost everything as before, because many dates were still set. But since January 5, it has become quieter.”

“I’m going to help my wife more”

How does he spend his free time now? “I read more now than before and I go to my wife’s hand more often. Otherwise I am involved on the phone with my son in the factory if he has a question. Or I go with him when he visits a key customer. ” Son Florian Hoeneß is the managing director of a sausage factory that produces Nuremberg sausages.

Hoeneß himself founded the company in 1985 together with Werner Weiß. At that time, his first supply contract with “Aldi Süd” was the basis for today’s factory. Hoeneß grew up as a butcher’s son in Ulm. But in addition to the family, he is still there for “his” club: “If, for example, a Hasan Salihamidzic or Marko Pesic calls with questions, I’m of course always available.”
