The court takes the environment around Emmanuel M., the suspected arsonist of Bilzen, into a pincer. A Ukrainian friend of M. was arrested.

The federal police arrested a Ukrainian Belgian in Tervuren last week who is suspected of attempting an attack. The federal prosecutor’s office confirms this. The man, Alexander G. (31), is said to have discussed his plans in a conversation with his friend Emmanuel M. (60), the suspected arsonist of Bilzen. A search of the Ukrainian man turned up nothing. No weapons or explosives were found, but fireworks and a training grenade were found. Lawyer Laurens Evens confirmed the arrest of his client on Friday. He denies any involvement. The investigation will have to show what he planned. ‘ The council chamber extended the arrest of G. Friday. His phone and computer are being analyzed.
Until further notice G. himself has nothing to do with the arson in the future asylum center of Groot Spouwen in Bilzen. He was a regular guest at Emmanuel M.’s parties in Zutendaal. He would also have given combat training to the far right group of friends in his garden. M. is a committed Nazi, his house is full of Hitler souvenirs.
Squat on fire
M. was arrested on Tuesday with his girlfriend Vicky D. on suspicion of arson, perhaps for racist reasons. They are suspected of setting fire to the future asylum center in Bilzen on the night of 10 to 11 November last year. They deny all involvement. In their own words, they were at the time of the fire on a barbecue of the Flemish activist Outpost in Assenede.
The court does not believe that – M. already posted videos of the fire on Facebook when it had only just started. The council chamber released the two on conditions yesterday, but the public prosecutor’s office appealed. So they stay in the cell.
The court is also investigating the role of a Dutch couple who were friends with M. The two, also Nazis, set fire to a squat in Maastricht in 2018.
