Ukraine’s Leopard 2 Tanks Repaired in Lithuania, Expected to Return to Battlefield Next Month

Dec 16, 2023 at 9:53 AM Update: an hour ago

The first Ukrainian Leopard 2 tanks have been repaired in Lithuania. The tanks supplied to Ukraine were used in the war against Russia and are expected to return to the battlefield next month.

“Lithuania consistently supports Ukraine’s struggle for independence and not only sends military aid but also helps repair Leopard tanks,” said Arvydas Anusauskas, the NATO country’s defense minister.

The tanks are being repaired at a maintenance center built in Lithuania by two German weapons manufacturers: KMW and Rheinmetall. The tanks are expected to return to Ukraine in January.

Repairs began in October. “We are dealing with all kinds of damage, from direct hits, mines, drone strikes and water,” said Sebastian Dietz (photo), the head of Lithuania’s defense service LDS.

Anusauskas and Dietz did not want to say how many Leopard 2 tanks are being repaired in Lithuania.
