“Russia’s position on Kyiv’s desire to join the EU has changed, now it is similar to the position on Ukraine’s accession to NATO,” said Dmitry Polyansky, Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN.
It should be noted that in March, Russian negotiator Vladimir Medinsky, who takes part in consultations on resolving the military conflict with Ukraine, said that the Ukrainian side in the draft peace treaty proposed refusing to join NATO, provided that Moscow would not be against its membership in the EU.
Prior to this, Russia was categorically opposed to Ukraine’s accession to NATO, explaining this as a threat to its security. In fact, the return to a non-bloc status is one of the goals of the war against Ukraine.
