Ukraine, following the EU, may shorten the validity period of the COVID certificate

The European Commission has reduced the validity of COVID certificates for travel. From February 1, 2022, instead of 12 months, it will be valid for 9 months after the last vaccination.

Ukraine intends to shorten the validity period of the COVID certificate, as the countries of the European Union have already done. The decision will take place after January 10, 2022. About this on Wednesday, December 22, in the comments Ukrinform said the Deputy Minister of Health Maria Karchevich.

She noted that the Ministry of Health expects an official decision from the EU countries to reduce the validity of covid documents, and then, in the same way, it is planned to implement this decision in Ukraine.

“It should be considered by the National Technical Group of Experts on Immunization, and then it should be approved at a meeting of the headquarters for vaccine-preventable infections of the Ministry of Health, and, accordingly, will be regulated by a government decree,” Karcevich said.

She explained that if we talk about reducing the validity period from 365 days to 270 days, then for people who travel with such a certificate to the EU countries, they will be valid, but within the expiration date, which will be determined at the level of the EU countries.

She added that if a citizen has a COVID certificate received after the second dose of vaccination for more than 270 days, a person can cross the borders of EU countries within the limits that are set at the level of each individual country.

Recall that Ukrainian COVID certificates at the moment recognized in 55 countries around the world, and next year this number is planned to be increased to 80.
