UEMOA: Council of Ministers examine the economic repercussions of Covid 19

The Council of Ministers of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (Uemoa) has examined the economic and financial repercussions of the global pandemic due to Covid-19 on the countries of Uemoa.

Meeting on Friday 20 March, by videoconference, the ministers discussed the measures to be taken at Community and country level to support the economies and enable them to overcome the effects of this shock.

“The effect of Covid 19 will translate into a drop in economic growth, an increase in unemployment and negative impacts on several activity sectors, notably tourism, transport, construction, trade, industry and financial sector ”, declares the Council chaired by Romuald Wadagni, Minister of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Benin. Who follows with the greatest attention the evolution of the Covid-19 pandemic in the member states.

Determined to take the necessary measures to overcome the pandemic and limit its negative effects on the population and the economy, the Council “took note of the measures proposed by the Community Organs and Institutions, to support the efforts under way in the member states ”

The meeting recorded the presence of the president of the Uemoa Commission, Abdallah Boureima, the governor of the Bceao, Tiémoko Meyliet Koné, the president of the Boad, Christian Adivelande and the president of Crepmf, Mamadou Ndiaye.
