Katsarov: If people continue not to be vaccinated, we can announce tougher measures

The situation is very serious, but there is no room for panic, said the Minister of Health

“Nothing will come into force tomorrow. We can announce new additional measures to limit the infection, which will take effect in a few days,” Health Minister Stoycho Katsarov announced on NOVA’s Hello Bulgaria.

“The measures are not decisions that I take alone. I trust the experts. We share and coordinate the implementation of the measures with the countries concerned. Before proposing new ones, they will also be discussed. The direction that much of Europe has chosen is the use of a Green Certificate for presence in public places “, explained the Minister of Health.

“The situation is very serious, but there is no room for panic. The health system is very well organized,” the health minister reassured.

“At the moment, the medics are coping very well with the situation, but that does not mean that it is not tense,” he added, ensuring that the health authorities closely monitor the development of the situation in our country.

The health minister added that authorities continue to open beds for COVID patients to meet patients’ needs. Attempts are also being made to import a new product for the treatment of coronavirus, which is not approved for use in the EU.

Katsarov again justified the high mortality rate with the fact that even before the pandemic in our country it was at the highest levels. He also explained it with the poor management of the health system and the low vaccination.

“Mortality is very high, but we were first in the world in total mortality before COVID-19. Mortality from COVID-19 follows the number of infected people by about 2-3 weeks. This virus will pass, but we will face in the face of a challenge we cannot get away with – the poor state of our healthcare system, “said Stoycho Katsarov.

“Compared to the previous waves in our country, mortality is much lower now“, concluded the Minister of Health.

He acknowledged that it is very difficult to change the severe negative attitudes against vaccines.

“The thesis that people are not informed is not true. There is no person who is not familiar with all drugs. The balance is very delicate. On the one hand there are overcrowded hospitals and on the other closed businesses. If people continue not to be vaccinated ,, the price we will pay are the tougher measures “, said the health minister.

According to him, vaccination is not a task of the Ministry of Health, but a responsibility of society.
