UEFA: AZ in tube for draw for Champions League preliminary round | Football

sport">Monday is the draw for the second qualifying round and on the website of the European Football Association the name of AZ is mentioned as one of the teams that will draw and not that of Ajax.

sport">Ajax was in the lead of the Eredivisie when the KNVB decided to permanently stop the season due to the outbreak of the new corona virus. The team from Amsterdam had just as many points as AZ, only the goal difference was better. However, AZ had won both meetings with Ajax and, on the basis of that better mutual result, believed that it was entitled to a later entry into the Champions League.

sport">AZ hoped to get clarity from UEFA last week, but nothing was communicated about the matter until Sunday.

All encounters in the second heat will be played over one game this season, due to the corona virus. The duels are scheduled for Tuesday 25 and Wednesday 26 August. The winners qualify for the third qualifying round of the Champions League, the losers have to continue in the Europa League.
