Uber taxi driver denounces Intrant fined him RD $ 50 thousand for riding passengers in front of hotel

A man who identified himself as a taxi driver on the Uber platform denounced this Wednesday that agents of the National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (Intrant) fined him 50 thousand pesos for riding tourists in the vicinity of a hotel in Bávaro, province La Altagracia. His testimony is in a video that is circulating on social networks.

In the material, the man is observed next to a gray Honda Civic car plate A 815893. The complainant, whose name is completely unknown, since he is heard calling him Andy, argued that he went to the front of the hotel because his services were requested by people.

He assures that he never entered the hotel and that after mounting the passengers, the Intrant agents inspected the vehicle, allowed him to do the service following him and then took him to Politur (Tourist Police) where they fined him. In the video he shows a document in which the fine is supposed to be, but what it says is not observed.

He said that he and his co-workers understand that “their clients” can pick up outside hotels and he deplored the fact that taxi drivers or public transport cars who board passengers outside these establishments are fined.

“What they say is that the front of the hotel still belongs to the hotel, but I was on the outskirts, I was not at the entrances, as they want to claim that I entered the hotel. I just picked them up outside the hotel, they were the ones who requested the Uber outside the hotel, “he said.

He said that the incident occurred on Barceló Avenue in Bávaro, which he said is a public road.

The conflict

In that tourist area there have been several clashes over the issue of taxi service, which led the Intrant to issue a communication in which it “urged” Uber drivers to refrain from offering services around airports.

“The Government urged Uber representatives to stop all activities in airport environments and inform all its associates of the need not to provide these services while the regulatory situation of the entire company is not clarified with the authorities. The Dominican Government is totally committed to change and progress, but always within the framework of law and regulation, ”said the entity.

He added that it was his competence and the duty of the Uber platform “to carry out all the necessary steps to regularize the activities of its associates in the country, in order to maintain order, peace and competition.”
