U.S. customs officers boasted of confiscating “fake” AirPods. In fact, they were headphones from OnePlus

American customs officials have apparently been convinced of how difficult it can be to distinguish Apple AirPods’ wireless headphones from competitors. Through an official Twitter account, they boasted that they had seized a shipment of counterfeit headphones from Hong Kong. If it was not a hoax, their price would be 400 thousand dollars (less than 9 million crowns). However, if customs officials took a closer look at the confiscated packages, they would find that they were not counterfeit Apple, but headphones from a completely different manufacturer.

It wasn’t really “Apple”, at least we can prove it to American customs officers.

Apples and pears

The U.S. Customs Service even reported on the situation through a press release praising its officials, among other things, for protecting U.S. citizens from various dangers on a daily basis. The only problem was that the attached pictures did not show artificial fake AirPodas, but boxes with OnePlus Buds headphones. An ignorant user would probably not distinguish them from each other, but this certainly cannot be said about sales packaging.

OnePlus: Put the headphones back!

At that time, however, mocking comments from users who recognized the headphones in the picture were already growing under the Twitter post. An official OnePlus account also took part in the discussion, urging customs officers to return the confiscated headphones.

The shipment of 2,000 pieces of headphones went from Hong Kong to Nevada, USA. If it were really the original OnePlus Buds, their price would be $ 158,000 (about 3.5 million crowns). The photos actually show OnePlus headphones, not boxes of fake AirPods with the wrong font. However, if Apple’s headphones were to be in the shipment, customs intervention would be understandable.
