Two versions of the division of Mazovia

Last week, “Dziennik Gazeta Prawna” informed that the ruling party would soon present a project to separate the capital from the province. Mazowieckie. The fact that the analyzes and work on the division of the Mazowieckie Voivodeship are already advanced was later confirmed by the head of the Prime Minister’s office, Michał Dworczyk.

Today, the same newspaper reports on two variants of the plan considered by Law and Justice. The first version, described by “DGP” as “soft”, assumes the separation of the capital metropolitan area from Mazovia (the capital and nine neighboring counties). As the daily indicates, this variant assumes the simultaneous functioning of the city council and the metropolitan council, which would be equal to the voivodship sejmik.

“In PiS there is a discussion as to whether in such a case it would be necessary to appoint a new voivode and whether the mayor of the city should not be re-elected (by the inhabitants of the capital and neighboring districts)” – we read. Such a solution would facilitate the recovery of Warsaw from the hands of the Civic Platform.

The second version of the plan – “hard” assumes the creation of the 17th voivodeship. “Then, in the fall, elections to both the Warsaw and Mazovian regional councils would be held. A new voivode and all the necessary institutions would also be appointed,” writes DGP. As we read, in the “most radical solution” there was even the idea of ​​re-election of the Warsaw authorities.
