Two trains collide in England: twelve passengers injured, driver trapped | Abroad

The accident happened around 7:20 p.m. (local time) between Andover and Salisbury in the south of England. The police of the county of Wiltshire, where Salisbury is located, made a report via Twitter. The fire brigade speaks of a ‘major incident’ and is on the spot with fifty people. This also applies to the police and many ambulances.

One of the trains collided with an ‘object’ in the Fisherton Tunnel. The rear of the train derailed and broke part of the track signals, after which another train crashed on top of the other. That second train also derailed and a driver became trapped in the cab. The carriages of the first train overturned as a result of the second collision and ended up on their sides in the tunnel.

British railway police say there were no fatalities in the clashes. However, a number of people were injured. The BBC reports twelve injuries, none of them serious so far.

The British rail operator Network Railway reports in a statement that the emergency services have come to an incident in the Fisherton Tunnel. “It concerns the line between Portsmouth Harbor and Bristol Temple Meads and that between London Waterloo and Honiton.”

Other train traffic on those railway lines has been shut down.
