Two suspects arrested for murder of Run-DMC member Jam Master Jay

Two men were charged in the United States on Monday in connection with the murder of Run-DMC member Jam Master Jay in 2002, according to Reuters news agency. Jason Mizell, as Jam Master Jay was really called, was shot nearly eighteen years ago in a recording studio in New York’s Queens neighborhood.

According to prosecutors, the two suspects, Ronald Washington and Karl Jordan, entered the studio armed on October 30, 2002. Jordan would have shot Mizell while Washington would have forced the other present to lie on the ground. “They walked in and killed him in cold blood,” the prosecutor said at a news conference. They allegedly argued over the sale of five kilos of cocaine.

The two suspects had been in the picture of the police for some time. Washington was arrested in 2007 for involvement in the murder. It is not known why the two are now being charged. At the time, $ 60,000 was awarded for the golden tip, but it did not lead to a lawsuit.

Run-DMC was an influential hip-hop band formed in 1981. They made well-known hits such as “It’s Tricky”, “Christmas in Hollis” and “Walk This Way,” a cover of the Aerosmith song. Shortly after the murder, the two remaining members quit Run-DMC. Joe Simmons (Run) and Darryl McDaniels (DMC) couldn’t do without Jam Master Jay’s input.
