Two Monas-sized Asteroids Launch Towards Earth This Weekend

Nationalgeographic.co.id—Two asteroid life-size skyscrapers is sliding towards Earth. Both will be very close to Earth this weekend.

One such asteroid is named 2016 CZ31. This asteroid will be at its closest point to Earth on Friday, July 29, 2022 at around 23:00 GMT or Saturday, July 30, 2022, at 06:00 WIB.

According to NASA, the asteroid is traveling at a speed of 55,618 kilometers per hour. Astronomers estimate that the asteroid measures about 122 meters at its longest point, making it as tall as a 40-story building or nearly as tall as the National Monument or National Monument. Monas which is 132 meters high.

This asteroid will safely pass our planet, passing about 2,800,000 kilometers from Earth, or more than seven times the average distance between Earth and the moon. According to NASA, this space rock approaches Earth every few years, with the next one scheduled for January 2028.

A second, larger asteroid will also glide past our planet this weekend, albeit at a greater distance from Earth. The asteroid, named 2013 CU83, measures approximately 183 meters at its longest visible point.

The asteroid will be around 6,96 million kilometers from Earth, or about 18 times the average distance between Earth and the moon. This giant space rock will move at a speed of 21,168 kilometers per hour when it approaches Earth on Saturday, July 30, 2022, at 23:37 GMT or Sunday, July 31, 2022, at 06:37 WIB.
