Two deaths were recorded in the New York City Subway with a few hours of difference between Friday night and Saturday morning.

The first event occurred around 10:20 p.m. Friday in Flatbush, Brooklyn, when a 43-year-old woman jumped in front of a C line train heading north on Nostrand Avenue and Fulton Street. Police reported that she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Some time later, when the Metro reopened in the early hours of Saturday, at 4:20 a.m. a 40-year-old man was hit by a D train northbound approaching 34th Street station in Herald Square (Manhattan). The police are still investigating whether it was an accident, suicide or homicide.

Last month, two deaths and two injuries were registered in the same night, who were stabbed by a young Dominican named Rigoberto López inside the wagons in Manhattan and Queens, which led to increase police presence in the New York Subway.

The city’s violence and “mental health crisis” is wreaking havoc on the transportation system, said Sarah Feinberg, NYC Transit, in a letter to Mayor Bill de Blasio.

Currently, the Metro closes every morning from 2:00 a.m. to 4:00 a.m. for a deep cleaning and homeless eviction.
