Two criminals from Chartres and Dreux suspected of belonging to a gang that defrauded car dealerships of €700,000

The case started on June 2, 2021. A police patrol wanted to check a Peugeot 208 in the 20th arrondissement of Paris. The driver had just committed a traffic offense. But the motorist would have refused to comply and would have escaped to finally abandon the vehicle. He was quickly found by the police and the investigation began. The Peugeot had been stolen two months earlier in Lyon (Rhône).

DNA traces

The judicial police were seized and the investigators discovered, in the car, an abandoned telephone. The exploitation of the device made it possible to discover announcements of sales of cars of dubious origins, bought with usurped identities.

The DNA traces in the city car and other technical elements put the judicial police on the trail of three suspects in their twenties. They were arrested at their respective homes on November 17, 2021, in Chartres, Dreux and Paris. They are suspected of having fraudulently used identity documents with credit companies to acquire Renaults and Dacias in concessions.

The three people would have been indicted for fraud in an organized gang and placed in pre-trial detention. But the investigators continued their investigations in order to identify the head of the network and possible accomplices.

The police would have established that other stolen cars were for sale. Various models: a Volkswagen Golf, a DS7, a Renault Captur and a Peugeot 208. Vehicles always acquired with false identities from credit organizations.

Among the victims, concessions from Perpignan (Pyrénées-Orientales), Rouen (Seine-Maritime), Conflans-Sainte-Honorine (Yvelines) and the Paris region.

Three other suspects were arrested in the Paris region on Monday, indicted and some were placed in pre-trial detention. Other people, having given their photos to establish false identity documents, are also being prosecuted in this organized gang fraud case.
