The murder of the 37-year-old member of Run DMC has so far been among the most notorious unsolved murders in New York City.
The AP’s unnamed sources are not allowed to speak publicly about the case, but the federal prosecuting authority was expected to present the charges later Monday.
Jason “Jay” Mizell, best known as Jam Master Jay, was a member of the 1980s hip-hop sensation Run-DMC, known for, among other things, the song “It’s Tricky”.
Jay was killed with a head shot in his studio in Queens by a masked perpetrator, police said at the time.
