Twitter removes tweets with misleading information about coronavirus NOW

Twitter forbids users from posting misleading information about the coronavirus on the platform, the company said Wednesday known. Tweets that “increase the risk of transmitting the virus” are removed.

Twitter promotes already reliable information about the coronavirus by forwarding users to local health institutions. Also blocks the platform websites that spread fake news about the COVID19 virus.

Now Twitter goes a step further by, among other things, banning tweets in which information from experts is contradicted. Messages in which incorrect or ineffective treatments, prevention measures and diagnostic techniques are recommended are also excluded. Finally, Twitter forbids tweets with misleading information supposedly from experts.

For example, tweets with texts such as “The news about hand washing is propaganda for soap companies” and “Use aromatherapy and essential oils to prevent COVID-19” have now been removed from Twitter.

Social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter are seeing an increase in the number of messages containing fake news and misleading information about the virus. Facebook previously announced that these types of messages are going to be active to clear.

The coronavirus in short

  • The coronavirus mainly spreads through sneezes and cough drops. The virus can be transmitted directly from person to person or (for a limited time) through surfaces such as door handles.
  • An infected person infects two to three others on average. Precautions are necessary to contain this.
  • The vast majority of patients have mild (flu-like) complaints.
  • Nearly all deaths involve the elderly or other frail, such as heart, lung or diabetes patients. If everyone complies with the measures, this reduces their risks.
