Twitter prepares service to compete with the Clubhouse – DNOTICIAS.PT

The social network Twitter will launch, in April, Spaces, an audio service in which any user will be able to create public conversations, in order to compete with the popular Clubhouse, a spokesman for the company announced on Thursday.

The service is still in beta version with 1,000 users – a trial version available only to a restricted group of users who test the features and transmit feedback to the programmers.

Twitter’s goal is to compete with the Clubhouse platform that has gained notoriety on the web in recent months, especially after being mentioned in interviews by, for example, Tesla founder Elon Musk and Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg.

The Clubhouse is a mix between a virtual conference (increasingly common as a result of the pandemic) and an interactive podcast.

Users can create rooms for debates on certain subjects, but they can only participate by audio. Up to 5,000 can be simultaneously in a single room.

The platform currently restricts the number of people who can access it: it is only available for Apple devices and, even so, it is only possible to enter an invitation media room, that is, only those who are invited by someone who is already on the social network is that you can ‘have a voice’.

These two factors popularized the Clubhouse among politicians and figures with a prominent role in the media, particularly in the United States of America.
