Tunisia: Hend Sabri and Sami Bouajila awarded at the Critics Awards of the Center du Cinéma Arabe

Hend Sabri and Sami Bouajila distinguished themselves at the Critics Awards 2020 by winning, respectively, the best actress award and the best actor award.

Five laureates are awarded by the 4th edition of the Critics Awards, the prize list of which was announced on the sidelines of the Online Film Market organized from June 22 to 26, 2020, which is a commercial platform for the Cannes festival. The finalists for this edition are selected by a jury of 141 members from 57 countries.

The Critics Awards is a platform dedicated to Arab film professionals which is usually organized alongside the Cannes Film Festival. It rewards films and cinema professionals from the Arab region in six different categories.

Hend Sabri is awarded for her role in “Noura Rêve” directed by Hende Boujemaa and will succeed the Moroccan award-winning in the same category in 2019.

Sami Bouajila is awarded for his role in “Son” of Mehdi Barsaoui and succeeds a duo of Tunisian actors awarded in previous editions, namely Mohamed Dhrif (2019) and Majd Mastoura (2017). The latter have been awarded for their roles in films directed by Mohamed Ben Attia (“My Dear Child” and “Hedi”).

“Noura Rêve” and “Fils” are two Tunisian works that stood out during their first Arabic in the official competition of the Carthage Cinematographic Days (JCC) as well as other festivals of Arab and international scope.

This distinction is the 4th for the Tunisian actress living in Egypt and her role in “Noura Rêve”. This 7-award-winning film won the Carthage Cinematographic Days (CCG) Golden Tanit in 2019.

For his part Sami Bouajila had already had a distinction for his role in “Son” when he premiered at the 76th edition of the Venice Film Festival, winning the “Prize for the best male interpretation” of the competition “Orizzonti” (Horizons ).

At the Venice Film Festival, “A Son” won the interfilm prize for the best film while at the JCC, he won the special mention of the Jury.

Since their 1st edition launched on the sidelines of the 70th Cannes Film Festival, the Critics Awards have awarded prizes to the best Arab cinematographic productions in the categories best feature film, best documentary, best director, best screenwriter, best actress and best actor.

– Best feature film and best director: “It Must Be Heaven” by Elia Suleiman (Palestine)

– Best Actress Award: Hend Sabri

– Best actor award: Sami Bouajila

-Best Documentary: “Talking about trees” by Suhaib Gasmebari (Sudan)

– Best Screenplay: Youssef Ibrahim for “You Will Die at Twenty” by Amjad Abu Alala (Sudan)
