Trump to riot-ravaged Kenosha | Abroad

“The governor has said he doesn’t want you to come. Why is it important to you to be seen by the people of Wisconsin now? ” asked the interviewer Laura Ingraham in an interview with the president. “Because I’m a huge fan of the police,” Trump replied. “And I want to thank the police. They have done well. ”

Critics argue that Trump’s visit wants to further stir up unrest in Kenosha for the benefit of his election campaign. Trump accused Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden on Monday of supporting vandals and rioters. Biden has repeatedly condemned the violence raging in American cities and called on Trump to do the same. However, the president has so far confined himself to condemning protesters and people who riot and loot in the wake of the demonstrations.

Earlier on Monday evening, Trump suggested that Kyle Rittenhouse, 17, who is suspected of shooting two protesters in Kenosha last week, was acting in self-defense. Video footage shows the heavily armed teenager “trying to get away” from the protesters. “He fell and then they attacked him very violently,” Trump said. “I think he was in very deep trouble. He probably would have been killed. It is being investigated. ”

Jacob Blake

Unrest in Kenosha erupted after a white police officer shot an unarmed black man, Jacob Blake, seven times in the back on Sunday, August 23. The police also received criticism because Rittenhouse, who after the shooting incident of which he is suspected, walked towards the police with his hands up and his weapon at his side, was not immediately arrested. Critics say the police would have acted differently had Rittenhouse been black.

Demonstrations against racism and excessive police brutality have been taking place in American cities since the violent death of black detainee George Floyd in the city of Minneapolis in late May.
