Italy Becomes a Mask-Free Zone From Today

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Whole region in Italy be a free zone face mask starting Monday (28/6). This rule is applied after the entire area is categorized as “low risk” of transmission corona virus.

In a decree that takes effect today, the Italian Ministry of Health has for the first time classified each of Italy’s 20 regions as a “white zone” of coronavirus, which signifies the lowest risk of transmission of Covid-19.

That means masks are no longer mandatory for residents who are outdoors in these white zones.

This mask-free rule also began to be applied when Italy was facing extreme temperatures in the middle of summer. A temperature rise of more than 40 degrees Celsius is expected in parts of southern Italy over the next week.

Before declaring a mask-free rule, Italy was the center of the spread of Covid-19 at the beginning of the pandemic.

However, due to the government’s fast and precise handling, Italy has been able to relax a series of movement restrictions and health protocols in one year since the end of May.

Currently, a third of Italians over the age of 12 or 17.57 million people out of a total 60.3 million population have also been vaccinated.

Even so, Health Minister Roberto Speranza urged Italians to remain vigilant.

“These are encouraging results, but caution and vigilance are still needed, especially as there are new variants,” Speranza was quoted as saying. AFP.

“The battle (against coronavirus) is not over,” he added.

Since the start of the pandemic, Italy has recorded a total of 4.2 million cases of coronavirus with 127,000 deaths. Currently, Italy still has 57,000 active coronavirus cases with 294 patients in critical condition.
