Trump Teams Up with Governors After Allegation of “Mutiny” | NOW

Trump claimed to have “total authority” on Monday in the decision to get the country going again, in his Tuesday evening press conference he took a milder tone and said he will work with all the governors of all fifty states. Earlier on Tuesday, he accused some gullible governors of “mutiny.”

In the United States, the struggle to reopen the economy continues after the corona crisis. President Donald Trump wants to get the country back to work as soon as possible, but is opposed by his own experts and various governors.

Trump wants to look at the state when the time is right to slowly lift the lockdown. For some states without a major outbreak, that could be as early as May 1, Trump said.

Chief Infection Control and Trump’s key expert Anthony Fauci fears the date is too early. “May 1 may be a bit too optimistic,” Fauci said in an interview with the Associated Press on Tuesday.

Trump accuses governors of ‘mutiny’

New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo told CNN earlier Tuesday that he will decline an order to start up the economy in his state if it could compromise the health of its citizens. On Monday, he announced along with nine other governors to coordinate the restart.

Trump, in turn, accused these governors on Tuesday afternoon through a tweet of mutiny. Cuomo said later today that Trump is clearly out for a fight. He adds that he doesn’t want a partisan fight. “We don’t have a king in this country. We have a constitution and we elect our president.”

Flourishing economy good for Trump reelection

Last month, lockdowns and social distancing measures were instituted in most states, severely impacting the US economy. Trump hopes to be reelected as president in November with a booming economy.

A record 2,082 deaths have been reported in the United States in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of people who died to 25,794. The number of contamination cases has now passed 600,000 in America, which is more than three times as many as in any other country.

Earlier it was announced that the severely hit New York City also had more deaths than in recent days.
