Truck catches fire on A1: full closure lifted – urban area continues to be congested

There were traffic delays on the A1 between Bremen and Hamburg on Wednesday morning. The reason was a truck fire.

A truck that was loading electronic waste burst into flames on Autobahn 1 in Bremen on Wednesday morning. The road in the direction of Hamburg was completely closed between Hemelingen and Mahndorf for several hours.

The Bremen police announced via X, formerly Twitter, that the full closure has now been lifted. However, there are still massive traffic disruptions within the city area.

It is still unclear why the truck caught fire on the road. The fire brigade has already been able to put out the flames. A specialist company now has to unload the truck to ensure that there are no more embers among the electronic waste. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.

As data from the traffic management center shows, the accident continues to have a massive impact on traffic within the Bremen city area. Many roads are so congested that traffic jams stretch for kilometers. This affects, among other things, alternative routes on Oldenburger Straße between the Airport exit and Neuenlander Straße exit, but also the B6 at the Utbremer Tunnel.
