Trimbos: Complaints in people with psychiatric disorders are increasing NOW

The psychological complaints in people with serious psychiatric problems have increased since the corona crisis, according to the Trimbos Institute and MIND on Wednesday after research. “The changes in aid delivery are major.”

The study was recently started under a panel consisting of six hundred systematically composed patients, which can provide a good reflection.

This showed that only a quarter had face-to-face contact with a care provider, while that should have been more possible again according to the directive that was relaxed in mid-April. Not only has the form of contact changed, 38 percent also say there is not enough help now. A “small majority” is satisfied with the current form, and this is mainly because consultations were held with that group about the form of contact.

The poll shows that 40 percent experience more psychological complaints than before the corona crisis and that they now rate the quality of life with a 6. That was 6+ before the coronavirus outbreak and the imposition of measures.

The patients in the panel suffer from psychological complaints for a longer period of time. This includes people with bipolar disorder, persistent depression, a personality disorder or a psychosis.

Last month, patients and therapists on reaction platform NUjij already informed how they get through this period. “Normally I was alone during the day, but now you have continuous interaction. I can cry all day long,” wrote René, who feels that the corona crisis completely unbalances him.

People with psychosis have fewer complaints

Strikingly enough, people with a psychosis experience “as many or even fewer psychological complaints” as before the crisis. This has to do with the “perceived benefits of the corona time and measures: more rest, less incentives and (social) stress. The corona crisis is particularly difficult for people who look ahead and are gloomy about their future and that of the Netherlands.”

The Trimbos Institute and MIND will carry out the study again in two months to see how the trends are developing.
