Héctor Moreno has mixed feelings about his period with AS Roma. The Italian top club took over the Mexican for six million euros from PSV in 2017, but six months later he could already leave the Stadio Olimpico.
Moreno played a total of 141 games for AZ and PSV, but playing football in Italy was a completely new experience. “I realized at Roma that I didn’t know how to defend,” said the 32-year-old man Multimedia Deportes. “I went to Pumas when I was 15 years old and I didn’t know how to defend. But when I went to Rome, it became clear to me that I still didn’t know.”
“I have never learned as much as in those seven months at AS Roma,” continues Moreno, now 32. “They explained things to me during training, and I thought: how is it possible that i didn’t know that? I had always worked with trainers who emphasized offensive football. “
Moreno eventually exchanged Roma for Real Sociedad. He left the Basques last summer for Al Gharafa in Qatar, where he is still under contract. The Mexican won two championships in the Netherlands, once with AZ and once with PSV. In between, he also played for Espanyol.
