“Transcendence in Color and Black and White” Exhibition by Photographer Wolfgang Haack in Kurhaus Freiamt

The photographer Wolfgang Haack from Freiburg is exhibiting his works in the Kurhaus Freiamt until June 2, 2023 under the title “Transcendence in Color and Black and White”.

Born in Saarland, Wolfgang Haack has been living in Freiburg since 2014 after a total of 20 years abroad and is an experienced photographer who has taken part in many photo and art courses and workshops in Germany, Switzerland and England with well-known photographers and (photo) artists . Around 40 exhibitions, including in London, Aachen, Baden-Baden, Bonn and Freiburg, accompany his artistic work. The fashion houses Kaiser in Freiburg realized his largest photo project to date, in connection with the 900th anniversary of the city of Freiburg in 2020. All shop window backgrounds were provided with pictures by Wolfgang Haack specially made for this purpose over a total length of 45 linear meters. In addition to artistic photography, he has a second mainstay, so-called people photography. He has set up his own small studio in Gutach im Breisgau and dedicates himself there in particular to portrait and animal photography. Membership in various art associations and in the “LichtBildHauern” in Villingen-Schwenningen round off his photographic activities. Photo trips to around 50 countries trained his eye and shaped his understanding of photography.
With the photographs exhibited here in Freiamt, Wolfgang Haack wants to recreate modern art. He loves to experiment, questions traditional photographic thinking in his work and opens up new perspectives for the viewer of his works. In terms of concept, his works do not differ fundamentally from abstract painting. His style of photography is a further developed form of the classic understanding of abstract painting, but with the help of a camera and a wide variety of photographic means. Wolfgang Haack attaches particular importance to designing with the camera when the picture is taken and only working a little with image processing programs. The aim is alienation when photographing. He uses blur as a means of design and thus deprives the viewer of the usual mechanisms of perception. Among other things, the classic separation of foreground and background is eliminated.
The exhibits in this exhibition are deliberately separated into color and black and white in order to clarify the different effects on the viewer. Depending on one’s personal point of view and attitude towards art, a different, different perception arises.
The exhibition is open until June 2, 2023, daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The exhibition times may vary at short notice due to events in the exhibition room.
