Training enrollments for the health professions increased by 5% in 2021, according to a press release published Wednesday, November 9 by the Department of Research, Studies, Evaluation and Statistics, DREES. Thereby, the increase in enrollment is the strongest among paramedicswith a 17% increase and nursing assistantswith an increase of 12%.
In 2021, nearly 170,000 pupils and students enrolled in one of the 1,318 training courses for the health professions. Among them, 94,895 are in training as nurses. So the number of enrollments in the first year of nursing education increased by 9% in 2021. The number of graduates is also indicated. After an increase in the graduation success rate in 2020, this rate returns to a pre-Covid-19 level. It stood at 92.6% in 2021, compared to 93.4% in 2020, a particular year due to the health crisis.
There were 65,627 graduates in 2021, an increase of 2% compared to 2020. Depending on the discipline, the number of graduates varies considerably. So it has increased by 20% for paramedics and 7% for nursing auxiliaries, while the number of nursing graduates decreased by 4%. Nursing training for three years, the increase in enrollments in 2021 will be visible on graduates in 2024.
